Petunia, my Boa Constrictor

This is Petunia, my pet Boa Constrictor. She is 1-year-old. She is a cross between a Surinam Red-Tailed Boa and a Colombian Red-Tailed Boa (Boa constrictor constrictor x Boa constrictor imperator).

Here I am, looking kind of wary. Although I have owned many snakes, Petunia and I have had an uneasy relationship. She bit me several times when she was fairly new (about 8 or 9 months old) and I confess to having a certain amount of fear of her. Those teeth are sharp! But she has grown into a much more docile snake lately.

Here she is, looking kind of wary. The truth is that I had just abruptly removed her hide box. You would look nervous too :)

Isn't she cute? Look how she has her tail tucked in my shirt pocket.  I don't recommend holding snakes this way, particularly larger ones, but it is hard to type with no hands :)

Here is her cage. I got it from the Bean Farm, a herp supply company here in Washington. I put the light fixture in it, and added a couple vents on each side. It is 4 x 3 x 2 feet, which makes Petunia look really small and helpless, for now.

Here she is as I worked on this web page.  That image is from the Red Tail Boa shirt at 3D Airbrush Shirts.  I was going to steal it for the background of this web page, but I decided not to.
